My client is a therapist and came to me when she was ready to open her own private practice. She was looking for the space to be calm, warm, and a place she could even use for her own meditation. As I designed the office, I kept in mind to stick to neutrals, colors of the beach and peacock colors (her favorite), to create the mood we were looking for. These were the color palettes I kept referring back to.
My client’s landlord mentioned that I could take a box of antique books that one of his tenants left behind. Hello?!?! Interior decorator’s dream come true! This is the inside of one of the book covers that I framed (DISCLAIMER: No antiques were harmed in the making of this room! The cover was already broken when I got to it. I promise.).
Saw this vase and fell in love! I was looking for some white pieces to contrast the blue wall and this piece adds great texture. I placed a trailing plant inside the vase and love the life it breathes into the office!
I drew this bird and it is the perfect addition to this little vignette. You don’t always need to frame every picture. You can lean it on the side of the bookcase, if that’s the view when walking in the door. Or, you can lean it against the back of the bookcase and layer other items in front of it to give the decor some depth.
The best part of designing therapy offices is knowing that I am taking a small part in the healing process of many people!

WHAT’S COMING NEXT?
A new blog post describing the thought process I go through when choosing items and when creating the layout. You’ll also learn how the collaborative process works, seeing how a decorator and therapist work together to create the right experience for their clients. The blog post will include a video interview with the therapist, recorded in her office. Together, we will discuss the process of transforming a room from looking like a DMV waiting room, into a calm space with healing energy.
